Shipping Fuel Oil Usage with Ultrasonic Flowmeter
08 December 2010

Within the shipping industry a large part of the daily running costs is tied up in fuel costs. Ensuring the ship is complying to the recognised industry usage figures. Efficiency of fuel systems can be monitored throughout the vessel as the ability to clamp on the outside of the pipes and measure the flow inside to between 1-2% makes this procedure a ‘must have service’.

Channel one on an inlet pipe and Channel two one on a return leg of the pipe. The Oil usage can now be instantly calculated by setting the meter to subtract one flow from the other, thus giving the net usage of the Engine. This measurement will be accurate to approx 1-2% of the overall flow. (as long as the manufacturers’ installation recommendations are adhered to)
